Purpose To support new, local, grassroots meetings; does not support established meetings To support new and well-established meetings and conferences to broaden the reach of OTS
Eligibility

Applicant must be a current OTS member

Organizing a local meeting that focuses on networking and providing professional development opportunities for researchers in oligonucleotide research

Event must include participants from different laboratories, institutions, or companies, and organizers must make an effort to recruit attendees from diverse audiences, backgrounds, etc.

Applicant must be a current OTS member

Organizing a regional meeting (minimum 100 attendees) that focuses on networking and providing professional development opportunities for researchers in oligonucleotide research

Event must include participants from different laboratories, institutions, or companies, and organizers must make an effort to recruit attendees from diverse audiences, backgrounds, etc.

Maximum Grant Amount up to $2,000 USD up to $50,000 USD

  • Event must include participants from different laboratories, institutions, or companies, and organizers must make an effort to recruit attendees from diverse audiences, backgrounds, etc.

FAQ

A variety of different event formats will be supported, including one-day local symposia with invited speakers, local networking events (particularly those geared towards professional development and/or junior scientists), and journal club or seminar series with internal or invited speakers. Creativity is welcomed!  Examples of supported events could include:

  • Local one-day symposium on oligonucleotide therapeutics or related topics
  • Networking event – format could include speakers and/or poster session
  • Journal club or seminar series including internal and/or external speakers
  • Professional development activities such as workshops on scientific writing, CV development, alternative careers, etc. targeted specifically to researchers in academia or industry
  • Women in Science or related events promoting diversity in oligonucleotide research
  • Discussion panels on trends in oligonucleotide preclinical research, clinical trials, or other relevant topics

Applications will be funded based on the benefit of the activities to oligonucleotide researchers and in particular, junior scientists.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and will be reviewed twice annually, on March 15 and November 15.
A maximum of $2,000 USD per Local Delivery grant will be awarded and a maximum of $50,000 USD per Regional Delivery grant. The exact award amount will depend on the scope of the event(s) and the information provided in the application.

A committee consisting of members of the OTS Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Council will review and evaluate applications and award grants based on the merits of those applications.

Grant funds must be used within 12 months of the funds being distributed for a Local Delivery event and within 18 months of a Regional Delivery event. If you are unable to complete your event within the allotted, an extension must be requested or funds must be returned to the society.

Awarded funds must be used to support production of the meeting only and may not be used to purchase alcohol.

You can apply for funding once per year (i.e. once per 12-month period), whether or not your previous applications were funded.
