“Nuclear Argonaute:miRNA complexes recognize target sequences within chromatin-associated RNA and silence gene expression”

Biography:

Cristina received her B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Trinity University and joined David Corey’s lab at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2021 to pursue her PhD. In the Corey lab, Cristina’s work focuses on expanding knowledge regarding RNA interference and microRNA-mediated regulation of endogenous gene targets in mammalian cell nuclei. Using newly developed techniques, like chimeric enhanced crosslinking and immunoprecipitation, she has been able to identify endogenous targets that are bound by the RNAi machinery and silenced in the nucleus. Together, this work can help to increase our understanding of endogenous miRNA-mediated regulation and serve as a potential tool for the identification of novel therapeutic targets.
