Job Type Full-time
VelocImmune (VI) Next is an innovative group that focuses on development of groundbreaking technologies and platforms. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated scientist to join the nucleic acid therapeutics group within VI-Next to support our oligo therapy pipeline efforts and participate in technology development across modalities such as RNAi/mRNA/CRISPR based therapeutics. Key responsibilities include carrying out research to design effective RNA therapies by applying knowledge of mRNA structure (UTRs, orfs, stem loops etc.), function (transcription and translation) and regulation (miRNA, siRNA/ASO, RBPs etc.). Candidates are expected to work independently in a creative, collaborative, and diverse team environment, with strong support for skill and career development. In this unique cross-functional group, the incumbent will have an opportunity to work with various cutting edge RNA therapeutic modalities such as siRNA, ASO, SSO, CRISPR, Aptamers etc.
As an Associate Scientist on the VI Next team, a typical day might include the following:
· Applying learnings from mRNA biology to optimize structure/function of mRNA based therapeutic development
· Supporting CRISPR ex-vivo editing efforts by designing/engineering gRNAs and mRNAs, and screening them
Designing mRNA targeting therapies such as siRNA/ASO/shRNAs and assay their activity using techniques such as qPCR/western blot/flowcytometry/microscopy
This role might be for you if:
• You have excellent presentation and communication skills.
• You have keen attention to detail.
• You possess strong organizational and time-management skills.
• You are able to effectively balance multiple projects independently and across groups
To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a PhD in molecular/cellular biology, genetics, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related field with 1-3 years of productive experimental research experience. You have prior experience of working with RNA therapeutic modalities such as siRNAs/ASOs/CRISPR and have a deep understanding of mRNA structure/function/modulation. Experience with in-vitro transcription/purification of mRNA is a plus. Knowledge of CRISPR gRNA crafting and assaying for gene editing. Deep understanding of RNA biology (mRNA structure, function, regulation, transcription/translation) is desired. Knowledge of mRNA biogenesis mechanism (miRNA/shRNA/RBPs) is a plus. Experience of working with different types of mammalian cells especially primary human cells is highly desirable. Experience with delivery techniques for oligonucleotides (LNP, electroporation, ligand mediated) is helpful. Experience with large scale screening assays and automated pipeline is a plus. Ability to innovate and think out-of-the-box is needed
