Biography:
Guizhi (Julian) Zhu is currently an Assistant Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Center for Pharmaceutical Engineering and Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). He is a co-founder and CSO of a startup company AmpedRNA Biosciences LLC that develops RNA therapeutics and vaccines. He received BS degree in Biotechnology from Nankai University (China) and PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Florida, followed by a postdoc training on drug delivery and bioimaging in the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) of National Institutes of Health (NIH). His multidisciplinary research group (https://www.guizhizhu.org/) studies the engineering and delivery technologies of nucleic acid immunotherapeutics and vaccines for the treatment and prophylaxis of cancer, infectious diseases, and autoimmune diseases. In the past four years since he has established his research group, his team has been funded with ~$10M from NIH, Department of Defense (DoD), American Cancer Society (ACS), among others. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers with over 10,000 citations.
